Generation 1: Chapter 1

NO. No way. This cannot be happening. Not to me. Please, let it be a dream. My life is officially over. OVER! It's never coming back. Ever. Does that woman seriously expect me to live here? It's not a house, it's a hovel! What is wrong with her!? I stared blankly at the "house" in front of me. You couldn't even call it that. A roof over four pillars, with random bits of furniture dotted about. And not a penny to my name! I walked over to the hard, lumpy bed and lay back on it, trying to relax on it without springs digging into my spine.

Yeah, a little bit about myself. I'm AJ Houston, and I recently moved here from Sunrise Springs, a town a couple of hours away from here. I was dumped here by my mother because apparently, I'm a nutcase. Out of the safe, warm environment of our modern family home, and into this dump. Well, not exactly into. More like under a roof with no walls. Or privacy for when I have to...do certain things that I'd rather not do in front of people. According to her, the "country air" will do me good. That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard in my life.

The other houses on the street are nice. I admit, I got my hopes up a little when I saw this beauty. Hey, if the other houses were nice, surely mine will be too? But that's where I was wrong. And that is why I don't get my hopes up. I mean, just look at that happy, perfect family living in a nice, family-sized home. With a car, I might  add. I'll have to travel everywhere by one of those garish yellow taxis. And there'll probably be some creepy balding dude driving who will either weave in and out of traffic like a madman, or drive so slowly I'll wish I'd caught a snail and gone somewhere on it.

At this point of thought-ranting I decided that I was bored and that I should probably go somewhere. That's just one of the things that comes with being ADHD, though. You always have to do something. I've got a mild case of OCD too, I think, since everything has to be perfect or I go slightly bonkers and have an urge to go and fix it even if I can't be bothered stopping what I'm doing. I told the cab driver (who was balding, might I add) to take me to the library so I could brush up on my cooking, even though in school my cookery teacher said I had a gift for cooking. Still, never hurts to practice.

I arrived at the Wright Reading Room (or whatever you call it) and immediately started browsing for a cookery book. I passed a book for the Handiness skill, too, so picked it up as well so that if something breaks I might just be able to fix it. Maybe, if I'm lucky. Give me a spanner and I'll probably clonk myself on the head with it.

While at the library I met a nice old dear with a slightly dubious sense of fashion. I went up and introduced myself, and we had a nice chat.
"Hi, I'm AJ Houston, I'm new in town. What's your name?"
"Och hello dearie! I'm Rayna Kaminski but mostly people call me Aunty Ray so you can call me that too. New in town, are ye? It's always nice to see new faces around here. Where'd ye come from?"
"Oh, I came from Sunrise Springs. It takes a couple of hours to get there from here. Not that I'd really have any reason to go there..."
"Have ye no family up there, dear?"
"Oh, um, yeah, but I, uh, it's hard to explain."
"Ah, ye don't want teh tell me? That's fine, love. Any time you want a chat, come and find me."
"Thanks, um, Auntie Ray..." I stumbled over the name a bit, since she wasn't really my auntie.
"Bye, now!" With a wave of a wrinkly hand and a crinkly-eyed smile, she left the library.
How nice of her! I thought. If there's one thing I like, it's friendly locals.

When I arrived back home, I was feeling pretty hungry, so I fixed myself some Autumn Salad, a recipe which I had learned in school. It wasn't too hard to make and it was quick, but it filled me up considerably. It was pretty good considering I hadn't made it for a couple of years now.

Ahh, eating Autumn Salad on the toilet with not much of a roof over your head...it just seems so homely, doesn't it? After I had washed the dishes, I went to bed. I was going job-hunting tomorrow, and I needed to be in top form to get even the slightest sliver of a chance of getting a job. Good night!

  1. Thanks! I took a lot of pictures but didn't get time to put them into the blog and add text in because it was getting late. They should be up either tomorrow or over the weekend sometime.
